SOS Connect - case management and workflow

Ramesys is a company which provides IT infrastructure support to many sectors of industry with branches across England and Wales. There is a strong user base of large and medium sized firms of solicitors ranging in size from 60 - 2500 staff. Their wide portfolio of solutions and services include:

    Solicitors Case Management Systems (SC@MS), created by solicitors, provides a total integrated front & back office solution:

  • files- The case management system, which includes full document automation for unlimited letters & documents, automatic mail merge, incoming & outgoing email integration, core template letters & documents, integration with electronic forms, automatic & manual time recording, chronological list of work to do on a file, timely warnings of approaching limits, storage of and easy access to letters & documents, case history including a "click-of-a-button" browsing facility, large database including address book, history of instructions to expert witnesses and office/client ledgers on each file with separate paid & unpaid disbursements.
  • reports- The practice management system, which includes a range of searches against the practice's business & financial data, ability to compare results by fee earners, work types, offices/departments & funding types, data for any given date or range of dates, export facility to MS Excel, key dates & undertakings, full contacts databank, automatic generation of the Legal Services Commission (LSC)'s CMSF, CMRF & CDS6, a 3-stage credit control system & reminders to advise a client to update a will & confirm securities.
  • accounts- includes unlimited client & nominal ledgers, flexible user access or restriction, fast & easy posting and journal entries, anti-error safeguards, automatic client interest calculator, automatic allocation of the LSC's monthly payment, write-off reminders, anti-money laundering alerts, up-to-date management and profit & loss accounts with variances against budget, separate balance sheet, drill-down facility, office & client bank reconciliations, VAT Account & automatic calculation & storage of VAT Returns, automatic allocation of cash items and full archiving facility.
    There are numerous supervision & Risk Management features, which include many anti-money laundering features, and an optional electronic diary & internal messages system. A separate Work Type Design program enables practices to create and upload into the software an infinite number of customised workflows for any type of work. Practices do not need to have any particular I.T. skills or knowledge to develop their own workflows quickly & easily. Installation, comprehensive training and a pro-active approach to after-sales care are included with the software. There are also a variety of options for remote working.     f SDLT.co.uk is software from Courage & Co. which enables a firm to submit the SDLT form direct to Inland Revenue, eliminating rejections and being certified in 24 hours. It is efficient and easy to use with no postage required; there is a small charge for each successful transaction worked out on a 'Pay-as-you-go' basis. The software itself if free to download. See also ConveyProControl, conveyancing software from Courage & Co., which can integrate with this (but SDLT.co.uk can work independently from any other software).

    Solicitors Own Software (SOS), a leading supplier of legal software to solicitors, has undergone a management buy-out (MBO) by the current executive team, following the planned retirement of founder Michael Platt. The management team includes directors Keith Denman, Elaine Galvin, Graham Colbourne, Stephen Parry and David McNamara, formerly sales and marketing director who now becomes managing director. Michael Platt said that he was very pleased to be able to leave SOS as an independent company, providing continuity of service and product development and able to provide the very best integrated practice management and case management software. Newly appointed managing director, David McNamara said that he thought that many law firms would be let down by the many takeovers and consolidations currently taking place as some legal software will inevitably be dropped and law firms will be forced in a direction that they don't necessarily want to take. "Our MBO removes any speculation that SOS clients might suffer a similar fate" he said.
