Casetrack

This is a tracking, research and full text retrieval system for all Court of Appeal, High Court and EAT cases. Casetrack is the only comprehensive source of all new judgments from these courts. (Take the About option from the Casetrack home page for more details).

The Casetrack service provides Internet access to Court of Appeal judgments from 1996 onwards and High Court judgments from 1998 onwards. Case records contain key details about cases plus the full text of each judgment. The transcript can be read/printed on screen or detached and incorporated within a users own archive or know-how system.

Features include:

  • Instant access to new judgments as soon as they have been approved. As the Official Reporters to the Courts of Appeal and Crown Office and the transcriber in the majority of ex tempore High Court cases Smith Bernal are uniquely placed to ensure the fastest access to new judgments. The record is 26 minutes for attachment of a handed down approved case.

  • All handed down approved judgments from the Court of Appeal and Crown Office are available within 24 hours of judgment being given.

  • Links to the Daily Law Notes for all cases which will in due course be reported in the Official Law Reports.

  • Searchable list of House of Lords and Privy Council judgments online with digests and links to the House of Lords and Privy Council websites.

  • Searchable links to the Scottish Courts website, updated daily.

  • Northern Irish judgemnts from March 2001 onwards.

  • Searching by core fields as well as subject search and full text capabilities. All judgments are indexed according to a range of search parameters ensuring that users can find cases regardless of how much or how little information they have. Full text searching allows research using key facts, principles or precedent (case or statute).

  • Tracking - status of judgments from listing to approval. Skeleton cases are created as soon as a case is listed for judgment. New details are added to the case record based on each day's activity in the courts allowing you to see whether the judgment has been given, reserved or part heard and whether the judgment is available or in draft.

  • Case summaries - for key cases . The short precis allows the user to decide whether a case is relevant to them.

  • Alerter - a weekly paper or e-mail bulletin summarising key cases recently approved. The Alerter can be circulated to all members of a firm or chambers and can be incorporated within a firm's own internal information systems and bulletins.

  • Case Detective offers assistance in locating cases - "if you can't find it...we will!" Contact us by telephone, fax or e-mail and we help identify the case you're looking for - then you can download it directly from the service. Or if you're waiting for a case to be approved or for judgment to be given we'll monitor progress and let you know as soon as it's available.

There are subscriptions available to suit all sectors of the market - by individual or firm, unlimited access or by subject.

Although Casetrack is normally a subscription service, it is available free to academic institutions, charities and welfare organisations.
