The Mediation Room is run by
Graham Ross, a mediator and retired solicitor with over 20 years experience in IT and the law.
He is a member of the United Nations Expert Panel on Online Dispute Resolution and speaks regularly at
international conferences on the impact of the law on the Internet and e-commerce and on technology
in the judiciary and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Several eminent lawyers have joined Graham Ross in the team running the service and information
on these can be found on the site.
They provide a service "where technology meets dispute resolution enabling people to have their disputes
resolved at less cost, in time and money, and with less damage to underlying business or personal
relationships than by pursuing through the courts or by arbitration."
In conjunction with leading mediator training and provider companies worldwide, they can organise both
meeting based mediations and mediations conducted online using a unique secure platform.
The online service provides an online messaging and blind bidding process, with additional message areas
in which client and lawyer can communicate securely. The system also allows for part 36 offers, authorisation
limits, offer conditions and non-monetary issues.
You can see a demonstration on the site.

A bullet point guide to how and why mediation works in more than 80% of cases
A collection of articles written by Consensus Panel members and guests.
ADR Glossary explaining common terms and acronyms.
Case Studies related to cases settled successfully using traditional and online mediation.
Extracts from the Civil Procedure Rules that relate to ADR.
Intersettle.co.uk describes itself
as Scotland's Online Negotiation Service.
I cannot get this site at the moment - can anyone help me?
The site is an on-line claims settlement system
and it is backed by 7 major Scottish
firms, Anderson Strathern, Balfour & Manson, Digby Brown, HBM Sayers, Ledingham
Chalmers, MacRoberts and Thompsons.
Users submit claim details and the
other side makes a settlement offer. The amount of a bid can be kept secret from the
other party, unlike in traditional negotiations.
When a bid and offer come within a set margin, the site automatically declares the
claim settled at the mid-point.
This will help lawyers avoid the litigation dance where parties take several
months, or even years, to reach an agreement. The founders says that,
since about 95 per cent of claims in Scotland are settled out of court,
there is a big potential market.
Law firms pay an annual registration and a 20 per-case fee. Lawyers are now
being trained on the system and will begin using it in January.
