European Judicial Network

The Europa Site now has a special section called the "European Judicial Network in civil and commercial matters" at europa.eu.int/comm/justice_home/ejn. You can look at the system in any of the countries, in any of the languages, and topics covered include a number of "themes" including a general introduction, organisation of justice, Legal professions, Legal aid, Jurisdiction of the courts, Bringing a case to court, Applicable law, Service of documents, Taking of evidence and mode of proof, Interim measures and precautionary measures, Enforcement of judgements, Simplified and accelerated procedures, Divorce, Parental responsibility, Maintenance claims, Bankruptcy, Alternative dispute resolutions and Compensation to crime victims.

The material seems to be aimed primarily at the citizen, with legal terms explained as they are used. The site is managed by the European Commission. Not all sections are yet present but, where they are not, there are generally some other useful links provided to institutions which can cover the area in question.
