Electronic Immigration Network (EIN)
Report by Delia Venables

The Electronic Immigration Network (EIN) launched its new website at the Law Society on 17th October. EIN is a voluntary sector organisation specialising in the provision of information on immigration and refugee law via the Internet, particularly in the UK and Europe. The site is at www.ein.org.uk.

The members' area, which is aimed primarily at immigration law practitioners and advisors, provides:

* Legislation, including older legislation not easily available from other sources online;

* a continuously updated case law database including the full text of Immigration Tribunal determinations and selected key judgments from UK higher courts and Strasbourg. There is an increased focus on overseas national law, to assist UK practitioners as well as those outside the UK;

* Country of Origin information (supplied by HJT) which includes detailed immigration-related and human rights information, from around 40 of the countries from which most immigration (and particularly asylum) takes place.

The site now has an improved searching process, each jurisdiction having its own search "domain". It is also possible to store selected materials (case texts, country reports etc) in a personal archive in order to create a ready-to-print bundle which can be retrieved and adapted for other similar submissions in the future.

Areas which can be accessed without a subscription include an extensive "Resources" section, which is a set of annotated links to all other immigration-related web resources. This is organised by a series of overall topics (e.g. "Asylum / Refugees (Europe)", and can also be searched by the name of organisation or by location.
